NOTHING PISSES ME OFF MORE THEN.. (#1) with Dennis C Donahue : The Only Good Yuppie Is A Dead Yuppie

The Only Good Yuppie Is A Dead Yuppie by Dennis Donahue

As gentrification increases significantly in several neighborhoods in the inner Boston area and of the surrounding area, that means there is also an increase of "Young Urban Professionals." That's how the term "yuppie" is coined. And just like everyone else, they’re trying to earn an honest, comfortable living situation. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to make a comfortable living situation for ones self. Isn't that the ultimate goal in life anyway? However, yuppies are different. A vast majority (most of) of these "yuppies" take things too far. And by that I mean on essentially all ends of the spectrum. It's their attitude and overall behavior is what urks most locals. It's their sense of entitlement. Just because you moved to an inner city area within the past few years doesn't put you any higher on the social food chain. Most of them walk around with their nose up in the air, "I'm better than you" persona. And that's where the line gets crossed. To have a complete lack of respect for your peers/neighbors and live in your own fantasy world when you're still "new", is not the way to go.

Yuppies are hated by locals, to each of their own. See, the problem lies in their attitude and overall outlook. They act like they own the place and pretty much embarrass the locals by well, being themselves. Loud, entitled, obnoxious, etc. And in recent years, the number of these "yuppies" has sky-rocketed dramatically. Which ties back to the whole gentrification issue. People who are of lower income families are being punished in a sense. Cost of living has climbed, local businesses are forced to close down (not all, but a very large chunk of them), etc.
With that being said, that means the culture of our neighborhoods and areas alike are being tarnished by corporate takeover. The local bar turns into a Starbucks. Churches and family houses turns into condos/apartment complexes. Exploitation is what's taking over. And it's awful. Who can afford these expensive cars and condos and everything else of that nature? Here lies the answer: yuppies. And that's not to say they're the only ones with money, because frankly, that's just a fabrication. BUT, it's the fact that they flaunt it. And as I said before, not all of them are bad. Just most. And sadly, it's only going to get worse as time progresses. All we can really do is try and sustain what little culture we have left because sooner or later, there's going to be no culture left to dwell on.
